It would not be surprising to find a really nice piece of crafted garment while moving around on the streets in India. This shows that innovation in garment construction is not the exclusive preserve of the qualified and certified fashion designers. However, one cannot deny the fact that innovation is primarily driven by these designers whose outfits are able to glare in the media attention, which then carries forward this trend and makes these popular. This privilege of media attention, which makes all the difference, is not available to that street shop which knows how to innovate but is not able to gain media attention.

TV and FILM Industry

All those fashionable garments related sectors which are prone to media glare are the ones which carry forward the news of fashion. So, it is not uncommon to find film and TV industry celebrities driving the fashion trends. What a particular celebrity is wearing becomes the trend and once the first pics are out, you have thousands of replicas being developed all over the country. Indian dresses have shown a change with the changing perceptions and preferences of film and TV industry. These have largely dropped the conservative legacy and adopted a more western approach. Therefore, the present day Indian dresses are more like a fusion wear, bearing an indo-western touch.

Besides TV and Film industry, it is the Fashion Shows which is another incubator of change in fashion industry. Some of the major fashion show events in the country have large media presence which overshadows some of the smaller level events being conducted at province, city or organization level. However, these provide a platform to showcase innovation in all aspects of fashion industry.

What popular personalities, such as actors, sportspersons, business persons and others wear is noticed by the common man. You would have certainly noticed that some famous celebrities are very conscious of what they wear in public since it becomes the fashion statement. They carry the style statements and newest trends.

All the sources of the changing trends of Indian dresses do find media attention. It would not be wrong to say that the media is fixated on these persons and events since it has to show what the people would like to see. Lost in this glare is that small innovator who has skills but no media limelight.
