Adoration for the Indian Dresses for Women

Indian culture has always held women at a high social status. Since ancient times, the status of women was high and she was allowed freedom of every kind that was available to men. It is a fact that the conservatism also has its imprint on the minds of the people, thanks to the foreign rule by a number of invaders from the west. Cultural amalgamation led to the changes and deviations in social fabric which also affected the way Indian women used to dress up. Despite all those years of foreign rule, the adoption of freedom as a way of life has always been a cherished reality for the women folk of India which is clearly reflected in the way Indian dresses for women are made even now.

It is a fact that mythological texts of Ramayana and Mahabharata have clearly stated that the traditional wear of women of those times was the saree. This is established by the popular Draupadi incident when Lord Krishna comes to her help by providing her saree of limitless length. In the ancient times, this was again the most prevalent piece of clothing worn by the women. However, it was the plunder and exploitative rule of the invaders of the medieval times that other types of clothing were also adopted by women. The embrace of foreign cultural traits further showed the liberal mindset of the people and a willingness to change. However, this was not to be at the cost of certain key ethos which have continued to exist for thousands of years.

Coexistence of tradition with the contemporary has been the hallmark of evolution of Indian civilization. This is reflected clearly in the way women have been adoring fashionable clothing from time to time. Indian dresses have come of age. These have never gone totally western, flashing body. Neither has it gone totally medieval, covering from head to toe. A fine balance has been struck between the two by vast majority of population, avoiding the two extremes. Indian creativity has shied away from bold cuts revealing of bodies to make a mark in embroideries, printings, weaving patterns and varieties of fabrics. For this reason, Indian dresses for women look very colourful and vibrant to the westerns, who are also using these in their regular wear.
