Is Fabric-Feel No Longer A Factor For Buying Indian Dresses Online?

Ecommerce was considered to be best suited for those economic activities where people do not have to first see or feel the product before purchasing. One such industry was the travel industry. For apparel or other sectors, people always remained skeptical about the success of ecommerce. However, it must be said to the credit of the ecommerce industry as a whole that this skepticism is now a thing of past. Even in the apparel sector, where people had loved to first feel and see the cloth by having it in hand, it is one of the highest selling segment on any ecommerce platform. So, when people have to buy Indian dresses online, they are not hesitant at all in buying. This is in stark contrast to the situation which existed about 15 years back.

So, how did ecommerce achieve this phenomenal feat of changing the buying behavior of the consumers? This did not happen all of a sudden but over a period of time spanning decades, through constant marketing efforts and pursuing customer-friendly policies.

If people had to see and feel the product in their own hand before spending money to buy it, there was the option of paying after the delivery is done. So, the delivery agents began to double up as money collectors for the ecommerce companies. So, the customers were assured that their money will be spent only after they get the deliveries.

Second, the customers would have definitely tried the apparel in physical store before buying. So, here the ecommerce companies gave the customer lavish choice of retaining the products for a number of days during which they would try and wear it, and if still not satisfied they can send the garment back and get their money back. And, to top it all, the companies lived up to this promise of theirs even when the customer played mischief. Therefore, conducive returns and refunds policies helped a great deal in turning away customer from a physical store to an online store.

Third, plethora of product choices available and the ease of selection of products was another hallmark of the online stores which physical stores cannot match. This tapped on the inherent tendency of shoppers to be excited to see many products and make careful selections.

With all the ease of shopping, shipping, returns and refunds, the stage was set for ecommerce to take wings. Today, no online shoppers want to first have a feel of the product in hand. They simply can trust the online store on product features given by them on website. They know that they have a number of conducive options available if they do not like the product.
