Indian clothing is an integral part of the Indian culture
When we describe Indian culture, one of the key element which comes to mind is that of the clothing. For a culture to be identified uniquely, clothing plays a very important role. Even though the physical features and characteristics of the people are also important in describing this distinction, it is a fact that the wearing Indian style of clothing even by foreigners would make it clear that they are willing to accept Indian culture. Therefore, clothing is one strong element which exhibits the trait of culture.
Foreigners who visit India for any reason, be it professional, business or personal, inevitable find the close connect between Indian dress and the key bonding between the bodies and the inner soul. The Kurta Pajama, for instance, gives out a spiritual note wherein this bonding or connect is clearly visible. Same goes with the sarees in case of ladies. Perhaps, this is because of the tendency against exhibitionism when it comes to wearing clothes.
So, what makes Indian clothing a class apart from the others? First, the key objective is to make the ladies or the gents appear graceful and elegant. It shall add to the overall personality of the person and in no way it is meant to show the bodies. Even in functions, parties, events or other special occasion, the Indian clothing does not attempt to set you apart from other by being more revealing of body. If you have to set yourself apart from others, it is generally done through richer fabrics and suitable decorations.
Second, clothing is taken to be a connection between the body and the soul. Wearing an Indian garment, there is a feeling of inner satisfaction because it works as a junction of physical and inner world. This feeling of inner connect is strong because the inherent edifice is not attuned to making outwards statements of fashion.
Third, Indian casual clothing is more relaxing than the western ones. Wearing a salwar suit or a kurta pajama is bound to give you more inner peace than the casual T-shirt or cargo. These have a tendency to draw you inwards which makes you peaceful and humble.
Other cultural traits of the Indian people, such as their connect with spirituality and religion and their belief systems in the traditional practices also influence their choice and selection of the dresses. Due to a rather more conservative belief system, the same is also reflected in the dressing style as well.
